A repeatable framework for backup-power decisions.
We evaluate products and systems around the job they need to perform during an outage, rather than relying on a single headline specification.
1. Define the use case
We begin with the appliances or household loads, desired runtime and outage scenario.
2. Separate energy from power
Battery capacity determines stored energy; inverter output and electrical architecture determine whether a system can support a load. Both matter.
3. Check relevant specifications
Depending on the use case, we examine usable or stated capacity, continuous output, expansion options, charging, ports, voltage support and manufacturer compatibility information.
4. Apply transparent planning assumptions
Where our calculators use efficiency or planning margins, those assumptions are disclosed in our Methodology.
5. Avoid invented specifications
When startup, surge or compatibility information cannot be reliably established, we direct readers to verify manufacturer specifications rather than inventing a value.
